It’s day two for the round of 16 in the 2008 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Here are my predictions for the games on Friday.
SOUTH REGIONAL
Texas vs. Stanford – The Longhorns have the home crowd behind them in Houston. The PAC Ten has proven to be overrated thus far in the tournament. Look for Texas to win, 71-66.
Memphis vs. Michigan State – The Spartans have a style of play that can bother Memphis. Memphis will want to go up and down with a quick tempo. A close game could favor Michigan State if Memphis has to win at the free throw line. Eventually, poor free throw shooting will cost the Tigers. But not here, Memphis wins it 75-67.
MIDWEST REGIONAL
Wisconsin vs. Davidson – Davidson’s Wildcats are the true Cinderella story of the tournament. Davidson star Stephon Curry is the darling of the tournament after scoring 70 points in two games. Can they pull their third upset over favored Wisconsin? The Badgers are bigger and stronger. They are also very well coached. So was Georgetown. Davidson does it again winning 77-74.
Kansas vs. Villanova – If Kansas is clicking on all cylinders; they are the best team in the tournament. Jayhawks coach Bill Self needs a trip to the Final Four to try to begin escaping from the shadow of former coach Roy Williams. Villanova has gone as far as they can go. Kansas wins it 82-67.
