History was made Saturday night in college football. For the first time ever, a sophomore has won the Heisman Trophy. Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, a true sophomore won the coveted trophy given by the Downtown Athletic Club of New York City.
Is there a chance he could win again? There’s only been one two time winner of the award. Ohio State’s Archie Griffin won back to back Heisman’s in 1974 and 1975. Navy’s Roger Staubach won the honor as a junior in 1963, but didn’t win it as a senior. The same goes for former Brigham Young quarterback, Ty Detmer, who won the award as a junior in 1990, but didn’t win it as a senior.
Could Tebow do it? The odds are against it, but I wouldn’t be surprised. His numbers could be better next year as a junior. His team should be better and the Gators figure to be in the national championship hunt as well.
Even if he doesn’t win it next year, he could win a second Heisman in 2009. Most in the media think he won’t return for a fourth year of college and go into the NFL. I don’t agree. Tebow is a different kid and is not motivated by the money. He’s the son of missionaries and his character is well grounded. He loves the experience of playing college football. He loves being a Florida Gator. I think he will hold on to that role as long as he can, just as Matt Leinart did at Southern California.
In many ways Tebow is a poster boy for college football. He was also home schooled, as a result he’s a poster boy for home schooling as well. Before his career is over, he may be a poster boy on the walls of many of our nation’s youth as well.

I agree. I recruited Tim when I was at Florida State. He is a class act and a good Christian.
I think he will win it again and for sure he will play all four years at UF. He is a great role model for today’s youth!
