It’s been an exciting year in baseball. Not only are there good stories on the field, but in the dugout as well. Many of the game’s top managers have done remarkable jobs keeping their teams together through a great deal of adversity.
Here are some of the managers I respect the most this season:
Grady Little – L .A. Dodgers
The Dodgers had the deepest pitching staff in baseball at the start of the year. Then injuries decimated their staff. Through it all, Little has keep the Dodgers in the race in the N. L. West.
Charlie Manuel – Philadelphia Phillies
I will say this for the beleaguered Manuel, he has thick skin. Philly is a tough town. The Phillies got off to a terrible start and everyone wanted him fired. But, they’ve stayed the course and are still battling for a playoff spot.
Lou Piniella – Chicago Cubs
Piniella may be the most underrated manager in the game today. If I was an owner he would be my choice to run my team. After a rocky start, Piniella has the Cubs in contention.
Joe Torre – New York Yankees
This is Torre’s best managerial job thus far. Most baseball scribes wrote the team off in May. Yet here we are in August and Torre’s patience and calm leadership style have paid off. The Yankees are still very much in the race.
Eric Wedge – Cleveland Indians
This team has overachieved all year long. At some point the manager deserves some of the credit for that. Everyone keeps waiting for this team to fold, but so far, the Tribe is very much in the hunt in the A. L. Central. Wedge deserves more credit than he’s getting.
What are your thoughts?

One Response to “MANY BASEBALL SKIPPERS HAVING SOLID SEASONS”
How come every year is Torre’s best year? He has a $200 million payroll and he has once again run his bullpen into the ground. I think he is legend, but this has not been a good year for him, just because they were written off in May.
